Beautiful Maine weather & Lots of Fun SCA Opportunities

There are several opportunities to gather with SCA friends as follows:

Tuesdays in Bangor: Archery practice in Bangor at Master Godric and Baroness Margaret’s home. Practice starts at 5:30 pm and continues until sunset. Bring your own bug spray, chair, and water bottle. Don’t know how to shoot archery yet? Show up and take lessons.

Wednesdays in Hermon: Thrown Weapons practice in Hermon at Lord Seamus’s home. Practice starts at 5:30 pm. Bring your own bug spray, folding chair and water bottle. Learn how to fling that thing [marshal approved, of course] across the thrown weapons range to hit the target.

Wednesday in Washington County, Maine: SCA Project Night in Machias. The UMaine Machias campus is on summer hours so the gym may not be available for extended time as it is during the academic year. Contact the Machias area members of Sios Thoir via facebook for the most current information regarding where and when SCA Project Night meetings will be held.

Thursdays: Lord Gwillim and Lady Constancia hold Medieval Dance practice and Sing Thing on alternative weeks.

Medieval Dance is held at the Orono High School Cafeteria, 15 Goodridge Drive, Orono on May 18, June 1, June 15, and possibly June 29. Dance practice runs from 7:00-8:30 pm. Wear comfy shoes and bring your own water bottle. Instruction is offered for each dance. Experienced dancers pair up with new dancers to help them through the movements. This is a free activity.

Sing Thing is held at the home of Lord Gwillim and Lady Constancia in Orrington. Upcoming sessions are planned for May 25, June 8, and June 22. Sing Thing starts at 7:30 pm and runs until 9:30. Group songs are taught to new singers.

Saturday: On May 20th there are several excellent opportunities to partake in SCA activities.

There will be a Garbed Forest Walk along Acadia National Park’s beautiful walkways. The walk starts at Noon at the Eagle Lake Carriage Road and takes about 3 hours to complete the loop. You can follow discussions about this planned hike on social media on the public facebook event page Garbed Forest Walk.

There will be a Queen’s Favor Making Workshop at the home of Baroness Margaret of Rochester in Bangor, Maine. There will be supplies provided to embroider and paint favors (your preference). The traditional snack for Queen’s Favor Making in Endewearde is mead and cheesecake. Baroness Margaret will have that, though other delights are encouraged. Master Godric of Hamtun will make breakfast for early arriving folks at 10:00 AM. The full on favor making will begin at noon and continue throughout the afternoon.

Our northern neighbors in the Shire of Lyndhaven (New Brunswick, Canada) are hosting their annual Middleground SCA event (read the official announcement). There is a public facebook event Middleground VIII – Cake vs Pie that has a discussion area for those who want to learn more details about this event. If you are new to the SCA please bear in mind that you will need to wear garb for any official SCA event (like this one). In addition you will need to have a passport to enter/exit Canada.

Our southern neighbors in the Riding of Giggleswick are holding Giggleswick’s Garden of Arts and Sciences (read the official announcement). There is a public facebook page called Gigglewick’s Garden of Arts and Sciences for this event that discusses what classes are being planned and other information you need to know to attend.

Sunday: Endewearde’s weekly Combat Practice will be held at the Bangor Housing Authority gym, 161 Davis Road, Bangor, Maine. Practice starts at 4 pm and runs until 7 pm. Adult heavy list and rapier combat runs every week; Youth combat is running on a pre-set schedule (see the Endewearde Master Calendar for meeting dates). Youth fencing is offered as well.

In addition to combat practices running on Sundays there is also a group of artisans who bring their craft projects along and meet in the kitchen area or outside. You are welcome to join them and discover an amazing variety of historic craftsman techniques being practiced in the Barony of Endewearde.

In other business:

The Baron welcomed everyone to the event and praised the event steward for a job well done.

The event steward, Alesone Gray, thanked all her staff and called forth the people in charge of the various competitions to announce the winners.

Syr Cedric announced that Bison of Thunder was the winner of the armored combat tourney. He received a stick of rattan.

Thomas de Marr announced the winners of the youth combat tourney: Cody of Endewearde for Division 1, Richard de Marr for Division 2 and Jamie for Division 3. They each received a handwoven belt in Endewearde colors made by Halldis Ulfsdottir. They also received tokens for their participation. Earlier in the day, Kathryn van Catwiic and Richard de Marr had been awarded prizes for their efforts at Tourney of Love: youth weapons made by Thomas de Marr.

Halldis Ulfsdottir announced the winners of the A&S competition:

  • Fiber arts: Olall for her pattern darning. She received a sewing kit she herself hade made for the prize.
  • Metal/leather/woodworking: Hrafn is Augu. He received a first aid kit.
  • Miscellaneous: Isabella Altoviti for her harp playing. She received a cordial made by Richard de Marr.

Trian announced the winners of the rapier tourneys:

  • Christian Wolfe of Edinburgh for Cut and Thrust. He received the buckler made by Syr Cedric which he may carry until the next Jehan’s
  • Lucian de Wyntere for the schlager tourney. He received a cloak to carry until the next Jehan’s.
  • Radbod of Endewearde announced that Jordan Harvey was the new baronial rapier champion and presented him with the baldric and sword of the rapier champion. Radbod was thanked for his year of service.

Cody of Endewearde was presented with the Order of the Portcullis of Endewearde.

Magnus Morty, Seneschal; of Ravensbridge, was called into court where he presented an eloquent plea for Endewearde to ally with Malagentia in the upcoming Great Northeastern war. He also announced a largesse contest between Ravensbridge and Giggleswick to benefit the toy chest, favors for the Queen or gifts for the crown to give.

The Baron announced that Endewearde would side with Malagentia at Great Northeastern War and remarked that it amused him that Malagentians had to come to Endewearde to pick fights with each other. Everyone was thanked for coming and asked to help clean up the site.

This closed the court.

Archery season is open in the Barony of Endewearde

Archery practice is held at the home of Master Godric of Hamtun and Baroness Margaret of Rochester in Bangor, Maine on Tuesday evenings (weather permitting) from 5:30-7:30 pm. Please plan on bringing what you need for your comfort which may include bug spray, a chair, water, and other necessities.
