Summer/Fall 2016: SCA members in Washington County, Maine are beginning to form a new canton within the Barony of Endewearde. The working name of the canton is Sios Thoir (pronounced “Syus Doir”) which means Downeast in Irish Gaelic.

The group has a facebook page called Washington Co.,SCA, Sios Thoir which is open to the general public. You can follow discussions on that social media forum as the group adds new activities. There are weekly SCA Arts & Sciences project night meetings at the home of Rose of Shannon in East Machias, Maine on Wednesday nights from 7:00-9:00 PM. Some projects nights are run as class sessions where everyone learns a craft and works on it for the evening. Other nights people bring a project they are currently working on and keep company with others who are working on their own projects. This is a great place to come by and learn more about the diverse interests of others interested in medieval craftsmanship.

Most people dress in everyday casual clothing suitable for the type of activity they are engaging in during weeknight meetings. Medieval garb is worn when we attend SCA events (usually held on weekends).

This new group of Scadians welcomes others who would like to visit one evening to teach a craft or offer an activity. In case of inclement weather, please check the Washington County facebook group for schedule updates or cancellations.

There is a wide diversity of interests in this new group: blacksmithing, scribal arts, heavy list combat, various handcrafts, and medieval costuming (to name only a few).
Please contact group members to learn more about opportunities to participate in upcoming artisan educational opportunities or to train in medieval sporting activities.
