The Endewearde Hunt: Friday Oct. 7 – Monday Oct. 10, 2016

Join us as we celebrate the glories of autumn in Endewearde. We hear rumors from the local inhabitants about signs of supernatural activities, something they call the Wild Hunt, and we should all keep our eyes open. Our days will be filled with Endewearde’s archery woods walk and novelty range shoots, as well as our competition for our Baronial Archery Champion. Thrown Weapons will also have a range for novelty and Royal Round competitions as well as our Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion competition. Join our Brewers for a Potables Competion. Take a class or two. We will even have a bit of Cut and Thrust for our fencers this year. Enjoy camping in the chill of the autumnal air.

While no dayboard is planned, we will have a Bacon Tasting on Saturday morning, a lunch of Pickles and Preserves on Sunday, and Potluck Supper Saturday evening. Please, bring your feast gear and something to share. A Sausage Fundraiser is planned for Friday evening for a nominal fee.

The site is both dry and wet. It is dry in that there is NO running water; plan to carry in whatever water you and yours will need for the weekend. It is wet in that you may bring and enjoy whatever legal libations you choose.

The site offers beautiful primitive camping space. Private above ground campfires are welcome. Dogs are welcome on site but must remain on a leash at all times. Port-a-Potties will be located conveniently throughout the site. Merchants are welcome, please contact the autocrat to make arrangements.

Site Opens: 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 7
Site Closes: 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016

SCA Demo & Medieval Tournament: Saturday, September 10, 2016

The Barony of Endewearde in cooperation with the Friends of Fort Knox will be holding its annual SCA Demo & Medieval Tournament on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Fort Knox State Park, 740 Fort Knox Road, Prospect, Maine.

Come join us in welcoming newcomers to the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) at the Barony of Endewearde’s premiere public demo at the historic Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory. This annual demo brings visitors from far and wide to learn about our passion for history. With a variety of interactive Arts & Sciences and martial activities, hundreds to a thousand or more visitors engage in a preview of what the SCA has to offer.

SCA branch Chatelaines, or their representatives, are invited to bring contact information for their respective groups. When meeting with the public at the Fort Knox demo, we frequently meet people from around Maine and New England that would like to connect with an SCA representative from their area. This is a fantastic recruitment opportunity.

SCA volunteers must check in at the Fort Knox gate.

Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory
740 Fort Knox Rd
Prospect, ME 04981

From all points via I-95:

Get to Bangor via I-95; take Brewer exit 182A (182B from the North). Take exit 4 toward Route 15; stay to the left of the Y, and take a left at the lights. Follow Route 15 for apx. 17.5 miles. You will enter Bucksport and go through the downtown/main street. Turn right onto Bridge Street (it’s a bridge, so it’s hard to miss) and travel .9 miles on ME-3/US-1. You will go over a large bridge – you will see the fort from the bridge to your right. After crossing the bridge, take a right at Fort Knox Road/ME-174 E. You will see the Fort parking area.

  • Site Information: The Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory website link at has additional information about the history of the fort as well as a downloadable brochure (pdf format). Separate admission fees are charged to the general public for entrance to the Park and to the Observatory.

All Day Activities: We have all sorts of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. There will be Arts & Sciences displays, Fencing and Fighting displays around the fort, and children activities such as a caber toss, face painting, passport quest, and hit the pell.

Winter Camp-Craft Gathering

Image from the British Library. Egerton 1147 f. 6v January

On Saturday & Sunday, March 12-13, 2016, there will be an informal (Free) gathering organized by some of the Foresters of Endewearde to be held in the woods behind the home of Sir Ané du Vey and Mistress Sylvia du Vey, Baron and Baroness of Endewearde, in Bucksport, Maine.

Come for a couple of hours or overnight and teach/learn/practice fire starting, campfire cooking, firewood gathering and tent & tarp-shelter set up. Bring your skis and snowshoes. Try your new winter garb or footwear. Have a snowball fight. Sing, dance, cook, eat, play.

Plans so far include two canvas wall tents with wood stoves that will be given a test run as winter camping shelter. There will likely be an outside campfire to share during the day. Since a lot of us do not have medieval garb suitable for the cold of the winter woods, period garb is optional. This is intended to be a family friendly gathering and that children will be welcome to come and encouraged to learn and play as well.

Dead wood on site may be gathered or cut for firewood.

Please direct your questions to Lord Seamus na Coille Aosda at
for more information about this outdoor activity and for directions.
