SCA Demo in Machias, Maine at the Bold Coast Sea & Sky Festival: July 21-23, 2017

The Barony of Endewearde will be holding a SCA demonstration of medieval combat and craftsmanship at the Bold Coast Sea and Sky Festival in Machias, Maine on Saturday July 22, 2017.

SCA participants are welcome to camp overnight Friday-Sunday, July 21-23, 2017. They would like the encampment similar to last year and the showers will again be available at University of Maine Machias campus. The SCA demo will be held across the street from Helen’s Restaurant which is located at 111 Main Street, Machias, Maine.

Details about the types of medieval activities to be showcased are being planned. Lord Anlón Greywolf plans to demonstrate medieval blacksmithing at his forge all day Saturday, July 22, 2017. We need artisans and combatants to round out the display. Please contact Lord Eoin, Chatelaine of Endewearde, at if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help at this SCA demo.

Maine Celtic Celebration SCA Demo in Belfast, Maine: July 14-16, 2017

The Barony of Endewearde will be providing a medieval Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) display and demonstration at the Maine Celtic Celebration festival in Belfast, Maine over the weekend of July 14-16, 2017.

We would like to ask SCA participants to show their best artisan crafts in a medieval village atmosphere. We are looking for artisan demos, music and dance. Heavy list and rapier combat demonstrations would be very much appreciated. Volunteer camping is encouraged by event organizers. Come join us for a fun weekend of just for the day on the Belfast waterfront.

SCA volunteers are welcome to camp on site by the ocean Friday July 21 through Sunday July 23, 2017. We will be located at the Steamboat Landing and Belfast Commons on the Belfast waterfront.

The Maine Celtic Celebration website has information for all activities scheduled for this fesitval. The event organizers also have a facebook event page under the title Maine Celtic Celebration. Their description of our SCA participation reads as follows:

“Hear Ye! Hear Ye!” The Maine Celtic Celebration in collaboration with the Barony of Endewearde invites you to step back in time to medieval Europe. A small artisan village will be set up on Steamboat Landing by local re-enactors of the “The Society for Creative Anachronism”, or SCA. The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts, skills, and traditions of pre-17th-century Europe. Members of the SCA study and take part in a variety of activities, including combat, fencing, archery, costuming, cooking, metalwork, woodworking, music, dance, calligraphy, fiber arts, forestry and much more. Some of these artisans will display their skills for us during the weekend. Explore what life might have been like and interact with the re-enactors in this demonstration village.

Garb Workshop: Saturday, June 24, 2017

Workshop runs from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location is the home of Baroness Margaret and Master Godric in Bangor, Maine.

Are you new to the SCA and need your own garb? Do you need help with a pattern? Come spend the day sewing with friends!

What you need:

  • fabric (should be pre-washed so it doesn’t shrink after the next laundering)
  • thread

Things to bring if you have them:

  • scissors/rotary cutter
  • cutting mat
  • straight edge
  • measuring tape/personal measurements
  • pattern
  • sewing needles and straight pins
  • sewing machine and accessories
  • pen and paper
  • sewing machine (if you have one)

There will be an opportunity to borrow the use of a sewing machine if you do not have your own. You can get help cutting out your fabric and learning to sew your new garment.

This is not an official SCA event. Thus attendees are not required to wear garb and will instead be wearing everyday street clothing. Please feel free to bring along a snack or pack your own lunch.

Youth Combat practice: Sunday, June 25, 2017

There will be youth combat practice in the Barony of Endewearde starting at 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 25, 2017. Youths should plan to come and get practice and take this opportunity to review and repair their gear before Great Northeastern War in early July.

Archery practice rescheduled to Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Let us hope for clear weather! As usual plan to bring items for your comfort such as a folding chair, water, and bug spray.

On Thursday, June 15, 2017 the last dance practice for spring & summer 2017 will be held at the home of Lord Poplyr Childs in Bangor, Maine instead of at the usual location of the Orono High School in Orono.

Dance practice starts at 7 pm and will be held outside on the lawn.

Garb Workshop: Saturday, June 17, 2017

Would you like to learn how to sew your first SCA tunic? There will be a workshop for those who are new to sewing or who would like assistance in making clothing appropriate for the SCA (roughly covering the time period 600-1600).

The workshop runs from 11 AM – 4 PM and will be held at the Bryant E. Moore Community & Conference Center, 5 General Moore Way, Ellsworth, Maine 04605

If you are using GPS for directional help please enter State Street in Ellsworth.

You can learn more about this workshop by viewing the workshop announcement on the Canton of Basingestoches website and by following discussions on the Garb Workshop facebook event page. Plan to bring prewashed material, thread, and clothing that makes it easy to try on your new garment for fittings and adjustments. There will be folks available who will help turn you turn that flat fabric into a new fitted garment!

Plan to bring your own lunch or snacks. This workshop is free and is open to anyone who wants to learn how to make SCA garb.
