The Barony of Endewearde is a branch of the East Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an inclusive community pursuing research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and culture. The lives of participants are enriched as we gain knowledge of history through activities, demonstrations, and events.
The SCA community includes over 30,000 members in 20 kingdoms around the globe. Our participants learn about the arts, skills, and culture of the Middle Ages and Renaissance in an atmosphere of fun, through tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, classes, hands-on workshops, and more.
If you are new to the SCA or just want to learn more about this non-profit medieval recreation group, several good resources can be found on the Barony of Endewearde’s Newcomer webpage. Please write to the “Chatelaine” (newcomer contact person) to learn more about SCA activities of interest to you in central and coastal Maine.
There are a wide variety of activities running on a regular schedule in the Bangor and Waterville areas. Some of the activities in the Barony of Endewearde are adult heavy armored fighting (often called “rattan fighting” for the type of wooden swords used), youth armored combat, adult and youth rapier combat, archery, thrown weapons, various artisan activities such as metalworking, leather work, stained glass, music, dance, costuming, needlework, medieval cooking for the home or feasts and much more.
